Obituary
Graveside services for Helen Marcea Flowers Clive, 81, of Portales, will be
held at 9:00 AM, Monday, June 1, 2020 in the Portales Cemetery and a
celebration of her life will follow at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with
Rev. Wesley McAfee, Mark McAfee and Rev. Brad Morgan officiating. All of
her family members will act as honorary pallbearers. Due to the restrictions
on large gatherings, the service will be live streamed for the convenience of

Helen Marcea Flowers was born into the home of Sebe J Flowers and
Maggie Lorena Cox Flowers on January 15, 1939 in Dawson County,
Lamesa, Texas. The Flowers family moved from Texas to Arch, New Mexico
in 1942. Marcea attended the Arch Grade School through 4th grade at
which time the little school consolidated to the Portales School District.
Marcea graduated from Portales High School in 1957. Two days later she
married Alvis Lee (Jack) Baker. She moved to San Diego, CA where Jack
was serving in the US Marine Corp, with a year left on his enlistment.

Upon his discharge from the USMC, they returned to Portales and were
welcoming the arrival of a little blond headed baby boy, Michael Jay.
When Michael was 14 months old Marcea started her long 45 year career in
the banking industry. Portales National Bank gave her the boost she
needed. From there to Las Cruces, NM for 13 years and after her divorce
on to Phoenix, AZ for 23 years. She was in Phoenix in the middle of the
opening of new banks in the 1980’s and was instrumental in helping open
three new banks from the ground up. In the early 90’s she was instrumental
in closing Savings and Loans while serving as Record’s Manager for the
Resolution Trust Corporation. In Phoenix she married Clive in 1984.
Marcea returned to her hometown of Portales in 2005 and has been actively
involved at Calvary Baptist Church serving as Secretary.
Marcea is preceded in death by her husband, Clive, her father and mother,
Sebe J Flowers and Maggie Lorena Cox Flowers, her older sister, Mary
Allene Flowers Brewer and sister, Betty Jo Flowers Owen.
Survivors include her only son, Michael Jay Baker, her baby sister, Doris
Anne Flowers McAfee and Wesley. Nieces include Patsy Brewer Whittington
and Lynn, Johnnie Sue Brewer Lancaster and Gary, Carey Owen Wright,
Connie Owen Lawrence and Rob, Cindy Owen Vianna and Paul, Cheryl
McAfee Wilkins and David, her favorite nephew, Mark McAfee and Sherri.
Several great nieces and nephews and several great greats. Last but not
least, her little Shih-Tzu companion, Missy.
